Student Debate Packs for Tutors - thinking lessons, not tournament rounds

Tutors and teachers who work with teens (about age 13 is the sweet spot). Private 1-1 is the main use. Students who mix English with another language are fine.

You already know how to teach. You need a repeatable pack for this week's motion: both sides, words they can say, questions worth asking.

Not for students to buy.

Not for you if you need Worlds Schools, British Parliamentary, Public Forum, or any other timed-round format: speaker roles, speech clocks, points of information, evidence cards, a judge's ballot. This kit does not teach that, and it will not look like that in the room.

A thinking-and-speaking studio, written for live 1-1. The pack always prepares both sides so the student cannot hide in a tribe. You do not pick a winner for them. The download includes a short note (WHY.pdf) on why the format is built that way.

In a real lesson the student often has not prepped. You walk the pack with them first: the motion, the words, the questions they do not understand. That can take a good chunk of the hour. Then they debate you.

You might do both sides the same day (for example fifteen minutes each). You might do one side this week and the other next week. You might redo the side they skipped. The pack is built for that. It is a toolbox, not a script for an eight-minute first speaker.

The download includes a suggested 50-minute map. Treat it as a map, not a rule. Your clock will follow the student.

• Four locked prompts (recommended): same motion each time; you stack four short pastes into one full pack. Tested on free and paid models. This is the default.
• One-shot prompt: use this only if your model is strong (paid / frontier). On a robust model, one paste can match four. On a free or school model, one paste is how the pack goes thin. If you are not sure, use four pastes.
• A short teacher input (motion, both sides, age). A 60-second checklist you run yourself. A 1-1 teaching map.
• A few finished sample lessons you can teach as-is, so you can see the shape before you generate your own.

The product is the generator. The samples are so you are not buying a blank prompt.

Student half (send through STOP): motion, Remember, vocab, Side A's case, Side B's case. Arguments they can say: the point, a picture, one line. They read A, then B. They pick a side.

For class (keep this): deeper cuts on the same arguments, traps, switcheroo, analogies, riffs, wow, devil's advocate, a thinking close, how to win in the room (not a ballot), a full self-check.

Paste into Google Docs from markdown. Colour is optional. Print still works: SIDE A / SIDE B and STOP are words, not ink tricks.

1. Fill in the motion and the two sides on your computer.
2. Paste the first prompt, then paste your filled input under it. Repeat for the next three prompts.
3. Skim the checklist. Send through STOP. Teach with For class.

If you send the input alone, many AIs search the web and write an essay. That is not a lesson. Prompt first, input second.

Four short pastes are the reliable path. One paste is only for a robust model. If you are not sure how strong yours is, do not one-shot.

• Not a tournament simulator. No speech clocks, no first/second/third speaker duties, no POIs, no judge.
• Not the AI replacing you. You still explain, interrupt, and put heat on a line when the page is too polite. The pack will not say every sharp sentence you would say in the room. That is still your job.
• Not a course of dozens of ready worksheets. You get a few samples. After that you generate from any motion you care about.

What do I send students? The first half, through STOP HERE FOR HOMEWORK. Keep For class for the lesson. Paste into Google Docs from markdown. Colour is optional.

Which AI? Any you already use. We tested free and paid models. Results vary. Four pastes beat one paste on weaker models. One-shot only if the model is robust; if you are not sure, use four pastes. You run the checklist; the model does not grade itself.

Do they have to debate both sides in one hour? No. The pack always prepares both sides. In the room you may only fight one. Next class you can switch.

Can I use this with a group? Yes. Same pack. Pair them; each pair owns a side. It was built for 1-1. A group still works if you run the fight.

Can I sell the packs I generate? You may use them with your own students. You may not resell this kit or the locked prompts. The download includes a short licence from Ekan Limited.
